For several years the School of Theatre has been looking for a way to engage the community in the work and ideas that we are continually creating. This is one of the ideas. The School of Theatre blog will highlight the doing and the study. This is something that we are engaged in continuously, though we commonly only present the performance portion of the project to our audience. To separate the doing of art from the study of art is like separating the experiment and theory sides of science. Both activities are enriched by taking place in the presence of the other. The scholar gains insight from understanding how works of art come into being, and the artist’s vision is sharpened by scholarship. Art helps us to understand the world better, and the insights of the people who do it, stimulate and challenge thought within the scholarly disciplines.
Here's the challenge: I want the engage our audience, I want to create experiences that will take you away, but I want you (the audience) to stay right in your seat, be present, watch the show, engage in the discussions and read the blog. I want to take you on a journey of discovery and seeing. I feel that part of my job is to organize a way for you to see all the wonderful things that are going on here at the School of Theatre. We will be posting on a weekly basis – watch our progress and our process through this … our new blog.
See you in the theatre!
